No. The music plays locally on each device through that person's own YouTube Music. The server only syncs playback state — track, position, whether it's playing, plus a timestamp — so no audio is ever redistributed. That's why there are no copyright or bandwidth burdens.
Yes. Every participant needs access to YouTube Music on their own device. Hummo only sends sync signals so that everyone plays the same track at the same position.
Free supports up to 3 people per room. Upgrading to Pro ($2.99/month) unlocks unlimited (4 or more) simultaneous listeners.
Payment is handled by Stripe (via lavela). You can cancel the subscription anytime; on cancellation your Pro access stays active until the end of the current billing period, after which auto-renewal stops. For details, see the Terms of Service.
Public rooms are isolated by UI language. That means you only see rooms from users who speak the same language as you (en/ko/ja). You can change the sort order by most-loved, most listeners, or newest.
You can add friends by nickname or one-way follow anyone. When someone you follow opens a room, a badge notification appears on the extension icon.
Three languages are supported: English (en), Korean (ko), and Japanese (ja).
